CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -Madison Daulton, an art and design animation adjunct professor at Campbellsville University, has organized a presentation by artist Rob Cabrera, who will speak at 4 p.m., Monday, March 28, in The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.
The topic is “Animation, Gaming and Working in the Industry.”
Cabrera was born in Bronx, N.Y. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he started his career in public education, teaching at the elementary level in Wisconsin and Florida.
While teaching in Florida in 2003, Cabrera's comic strip, “Silo Roberts,” was picked for national newspaper syndication by United Feature Syndicate, who also published “Peanuts.”
Shortly after his run of “Silo Roberts” ended in 2006, Cabrera entered graduate school at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, earning his Master of Fine Arts in Animation and Visual Effects and beginning the next phase of his career.
After graduating, Cabrera established his boutique studio, Creative Squirrels, in South Florida, in 2013. Under his leadership, Creative Squirrels has worked with several brands, people and networks.
Cabrera won an Emmy Award in 2016 for animation work commissioned by NBA Fox Sports—Miami Heat.
Cabrera is currently working on a metaverse Web3 project while also teaching the next generation of concept artists at his alma mater in the Game Development Department as both an instructor and lecturer. He also has projects in development for streaming and gaming.
Daulton said she asked Cabrera to present “because he is one of my current (and probably now one of my favorite) professors.”
“He's always pushed me to develop my skills and ideas and has been an integral part in the creation of work for my thesis,” she said. “As my professor, he's played a crucial role in the growth of my artistic skills and teaching experience.
“I wanted to share his knowledge with others as I feel like it would be beneficial to others around me. Rob has a passion for teaching art, and he feels like sharing his knowledge. Experience is the best way to help with that. I've learned so much under him, and I wanted to share that knowledge with others.
