CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University's Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center will offer allied health certificates for state registered nurse aide, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy technician, and medical assistant starting in the 2016 spring semester.
To be certified as a state registered nurse aid, there will be classes offered from now until March 11 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, March 14 to May 20 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m., and May 16 to June 2 on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nurse aides will care for hospital and nursing home patients by getting them dressed, serving meals and keeping an eye on their overall health. This position may also require nurse aides to transport patients between beds and wheelchairs.
To earn a certificate as a pharmacy technician, there will be an online class offered from Feb. 8 through Oct. 28. Pharmacy technicians will distribute medication, measure, mix, count, and label correct dosages. In as little as four months, Campbellsville's Pharmacy Technician training prepares students with the critical skills needed to find full-time employment at a local pharmacy.
To be certified as a phlebotomy technician, there will be classes offered from now until April 15 on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and March 1 to May 27 on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Phlebotomy technicians can find work in hospitals, blood donation centers, doctor's offices and various laboratories. Phlebotomists will draw blood, ensure that the patient's sample is correctly labeled, enter patient's information into a database and prepare medical instruments.
To earn a certificate as a medical assistant, there will be classes offered from March 14 through Oct. 12 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and June 7 to Dec. 22 on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Medical assistants can find work in healthcare offices such as physicians, chiropractors or podiatrists. Medical assistants may record patient information, take vital signs, give injections, prepare blood for laboratory testing, or schedule future appointments.
Courses are available at the Campbellsville Professional Center located on Nancy Cox Drive in Campbellsville and the Brockman Center located in Hodgenville, Ky.
