CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music at Campbellsville University, will be presenting a colloquium summarizing his experiences in China while he taught at the Shanghai Normal University in the fall 2006 semester. The colloquium will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 in room 15 of the Administration Building on the campus of Campbellsville University.
Roberts' presentation will include photographs and music from his sabbatical for
the fall semester. The colloquium is free and the open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Roberts has been a member of the CU faculty since 1982. He teaches courses in piano and musicology. Roberts has presented concerts as pianist and organist throughout the United States, in Europe and in Asia, including programs in New York City, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Lyon, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Prague, Zurich and Shanghai.
Roberts has served as a visiting professor at the French Piano Institute in Paris and
at Shanghai Normal University. He has organized concert tours across Kentucky for
international artists from France, Holland, Denmark, England and China.
Among the keyboard literature he has performed have been the premières of works by the Dutch composers Hans Osieck, Johan van Kempen and Kees Weggelaar and the American composers Tom Johnson and James W. Moore, including the
latter's 20th Century setting of the American folk tune Shenandoah for organ.
In 2002, Roberts was a guest speaker at the annual convention of the Music Teachers National Association in Cincinnati, where he spoke on the topic “Bridging the Gap: Tools and Incentives for Pianists Turned Organists.”
Adding to his list of accomplishments, Roberts has a book at press covering his monumental study over the life and music of Jacques Ibert. Roberts has previously been published as the author of reviews in American, British and Dutch journals. He also co-authored with Maurice Hinson of “The Piano in Chamber Ensemble, 2nd Edition,” published in 2006 by Indiana University Press.
Roberts is the organist for the Calvin Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Ky. During the 1990s, he served as the organist for the historic First Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky.
He has served additionally as president of three professional organizations, including the Kentucky Music Teachers Association, which granted him its 2005 Distinguished Service Award.
Wesley is married to Sida Roberts, who is also a musician. They have two daughters, Emma and Gabrielle.
