CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -Azucena Trejo Williams, associate professor of art and design at Campbellsville University, will hold a Faculty Art Exhibition through Feb. 18 in The Pence-Chowning Art Gallery, 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

A reception in her honor is Friday, Feb. 18 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to both the exhibit and reception.

The exhibition is inspired by the tornado that impacted the northern Taylor County and Campbellsville area in December 2021. That tornado also impacted Clay Hill Memorial Forest.

The exhibition, titled, “the past is prologue,” consists of three installations inspired by the tornado's transformation of Clay Hill Memorial Forest. The exhibition is multi-sensory.

“The objects in the installation are at different stages of breakdown and decay but in consideration of the resiliency of nature,” Trejo Williams said. “All of the objects in the exhibition will be returned to the forest floor making this exhibition the only time of this work's existence.”

“Clay Hill Memorial Forest has been a constant throughout my time in Kentucky,” Trejo Williams said. “It has been a place for contemplation, a place for learning, a place for being in community, a place to be, a place to belong.”

Trejo Williams has been a faculty member at Campbellsville University since 2015. She was awarded the Faculty Servant Leadership Award in 2017.

Trejo Williams is an interdisciplinary artist working in installation, photography, video and sound. She continues to exhibit her artwork nationally in both solo and group exhibitions. She is currently exhibiting an installation in “Our Kentucky Home: Hispanic/Latin American Visual Art in the Commonwealth”, a traveling exhibition, with the KY Arts Council in partnership with alDía en América and Casa de la Cultura Kentucky through Jan. 2023.

Trejo Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in Photojournalism from the University of North Texas in 2004. She also earned her Master of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2016.
